Prayer Request

I wanted to ask for your prayers for my sweet little dog Abbie! It was such a nice day this past Saturday, I was at home and excited about having a little time to do housework, add things to my website and things like that when all the sudden I heard my sweet little Abbie crying, so I ran as fast as I could to her. She was holding her little paw up like something had stung her, first thing I thought..... it was a scorpion, and it had stung her. We have had problems with scorpions before and have to have the house sprayed for them several times a year. Well after me holding her for about 30 min. I put her down and she couldn't stand up, her little legs were not working. I then held her for about an hour and put her down again..... again she could not stand up. Abbie is 14 years old now and she has had back surgery before, it's probably been about 7 years ago, and she had done really well after the surgery until lately I've been noticing her back leg kinda slipping when she would be eating, but she still was getting around very well. After taking her to the vet he confirmed that it was her back and there was nothing he could do for her. Of course I started crying again, that's all I could do all day, I pretty much new it was her back. He said he could give her a shot for inflammation and send something home to help her sleep. Well I started home with her and when I got home with her my husband was back, he had been out of town for the day. I went out of the room for a few minutes and my husband called me back and said she's walking now. All I can say is that prayers were answered. Abbie is still walking, but I wanted to ask for your prayers for her, that her back will get stronger and that she will continue to walk, and have a good quality of life. Abbie being 14 years old I'm not sure that they would even do back surgery on her. I am going to make her an appointment at A&M to let them check her out, that's were she had her back surgery before, they took such good care of her there. This is my little baby girl Abbie in the picture below. For some reason I'm not able to write under the picture, don't know what the problem is. I would greatly appreciate your prayers

Prayers for your sweet Abbie Daphne... it sounds like a disc in her back to me... three of my fur babies who have each passed away many years ago all had that problem... very common in small doggies... and it would pinch a nerve, just like I myself sometimes get and cannot walk... with anti~inflammatories they would be fine and each lived long, happy lives... thinking of you and her... and praying all will be well... xoxo Julie Marie

I will be happy to pray for your precious Abbie. We are going thru much the same thing with my little JRT, Sissy. She quit walking last Sunday. Had numerous tests done, and on Tues. had multiple back and leg, spine xrays. All looked good, but the specialist says she is just breaking down everywhere. They gave us Prednisone for her and within 14 hrs. of starting it, she had started walking again, albeit with a horrid limp. I will gladly help her onto the bed and out to potty if we can just keep her going. Will start praying for dear Abbie right now, too!

Big TX Hugs,
Stephanie

Prayers on the way for Abbie! I don't know if you have a canine accupuncturist near you, but they can do wonders for back and hip problems. Or you might look for a canine physical therapist - we have a new one near us who uses hydrotherapy. Both of these alternatives are more gentle than surgery and can be used on geriatric doggies. Good Luck, Love, Linda

I want to thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and most of all for your prayers for our little Abbie. Hearing what some of you have gone through with your little fur babies have certainly give me questions that I can ask when we go to the doctor, and thanks Linda for the alternative ways you told me about for treatment, it's certainly something I will check out. Again your prayers and your sweet comments have meant so much to me.

Daphne,
My sisters dauschund has this same type of problem. The vet didn't offer much help the first time it happened, so when it happened again recently, my sister put one of those heat bandages that people put on their backs when they hurt. She tied it around her neck with a soft t-shirt. She also gave her some of her own arthritis medicine and in just a few days the doxie was just fine again. Just so food for thought...and certainly I'll say a prayer for you both...right now.

So sorry to hear Abbie is declining in health. I have a dachshund who just turned 13 and he has Cushings Disease and just had some teeth extracted. It is so awful to see them get old and start to get sick. I can totally sympathize with you. Glad Abbie is now walking. xo

Thank so much Debby for your kind words. It is so hard when they start having health problems, I've never heard of cushings Disease before, will have to read about it, hope your little Dachshund feels better soon.
