Warrenton / Round Top trip

I had a whirlwind trip to Warrenton yesterday. I had planned on leaving about 7 am and it was more like 10:45 before I headed that way. I got to visit with a few friends , and I bought a little bit, but did'nt get much, as I was in such a rush for time. However I do plan on going back next week when the Marburger Farm Antique show starts. I always love going there, it's always a wonderful show, with great dealers and lovely treasure's to be found. Here are a few pictures I took yesterday!

My new line of Purses

I'm so excited about my new line of purses. I've never seen any like them anywhere before. They are made with vintage lace, linen's, burlap, cotton fab, and needlepoints. I've been doing pillows with these materials for a while, and have seen other pillows out of the same things, just haven't seen purses with these embellishments, so I thought about how cute it would be to make some purses from these materials. I have shown a few of my pillows they are listed first , I only had time to list a couple of my new bags. I will be listing more in a few days.

These are some of my vintage and western purses. They are out of my personal collection (some I just could'nt part with). I've been making these bags for about 4 years now. When I started making these purses I had seen vintage bags, but never had seen the cowhide mixed with the vintage fabric, and thought how beautiful it would look to mix the two together. I also really loved the fact that I had never seen this done on any other bags before. I really loved the vintage fabric, but I wanted to have my own look and style. I hope that I have accomplished that with these purses. The first two I have posted are just vintage , and the rest are vintage and western.

What a surprise

I bought a few things from my friend Laurie, from Laurieanna's Vintage Home, at her Serendipity Market a few weeks ago. I just got around to taking my goodies out of the bag this morning. I had been wondering what I could use this burlap for, I really didn't have any ideals. I just knew I loved it and would find use for it somewhere, and boy was I surprised when I relized that the burlap fits perfect on my kitchen windows, the only problem now is I have to buy 3 more of them.
The burlap will work perfect for the new look I'm going for in my kitchen, although it will be awhile before I redo the entire kitchen, there is just not enough time in my busy schedule for a kitchen makeover, I'm trying to find some balance. Hopefully it won't have to wait to long.




I love these botanical prints. I haven't decided where to put them yet, but I'm sure I'll find a place for them soon.

I also bought these cute little burlap bags from Patina Green , they had a booth set up at Laurieanna's on the porch. I love these little bags you could do so many different things with them, you could just put a simple flower in each of them, are you can dress them up a bit. This is how I dressed mine up, with flowers, lace, brooches, old photo's, they would also be fun for the Holidays to put your favorite things in and display them.

My Passion - Fine Silver from Clay

Hours spent in my studio are truly "stolen moments." My typical day goes something like this: up before dawn, do my aerobics, out to the barn, feed the horses, out the door to work by 7:00 am, teach students ALL day, back home to fix dinner, feed the hungry horses again, if any daylight left, ride the horses, then back to the computer to grade tests, papers, etc. Whew.... What did Women's Lib really do for us?? I ask you.... Sigh...

Wanted to share a few sane moments from my studio. Making silver jewelry from clay is truly a labor of love. Each piece begins as a small lump of clay. The clay is composed of silver shavings in a clay base. I form the clay design, add jewels or sterling components, fire the piece in a kiln, where the clay burns off, leaving the silver. I polish, buff, and shine...then, wa-la like magic I have this solid, silver creation! The end product is such a delight! I'm always stunned and elated that such a beautiful, shiny thing can come from such humble beginnings.

And the best part, the final silver piece is a "forever" treasure. Composed of 99.9% silver, each piece can be handed down for generations to come. They truly are heirloom pieces. The best thing about making silver jewelry from clay... it is truly therapy for a crazy world.

Are we addicted to the Internet?

Daphne and I were musing the other day about why we enjoy spending sooo much time on the web, browsing beautiful blogs and websites. It reminded me of a project my research students completed about 3 years ago. The students found this interesting survey by Dr. Kimberly Young (a leading researcher in the field of internet addiction), entitled, the “Internet Addiction Test”. When I first took the test three years ago, I scored 32 - nowhere near “addiction” status. The web was a place of work for me, not for fun. I took the test, today. I'm still not "addicted" but now scored 42....interesting.

Electronic social networks allow us to share a small part of our personal lives without having to mop the floors. We can invite friends in for “electronic tea” without worrying about whether or not the house is clean. And, we don’t have to synchronize our watches to visit. We can come in, chat, go about our business, then come back to chat some more. Never before have we been able to share so many beautiful things with those who enjoy similar passions. A pretty table setting, a lovely light fixture, an elegant china pattern, ahhhh....so many pretty things to share with just a click of the mouse. Maybe Internet addiction isn’t such a bad thing after all, is it?
